Restaurant Review
Nehme Elbitar and his wife Christina have been running Chadra Mezza for over seven years. The Elbitars’ sense of family can be seen through their community involvement and contribution to the growth of the Near Southside. Chadra Mezza is a jewel in the Near Southside with its distinctive exterior, open and airy dining area, and lovely patio.
Nehme Elbitar’s Lebanese heritage is apparent in the inspired dishes. Greek, Italian, and Mediterranean specialties also make their way onto the menu. The best way to sample it all is at lunch or Friday night dinner buffets. The buffet offerings range from hummus to pasta to shawarma. You can also choose different pizza options with a variety of creative toppings. The buffet changes frequently so if you are unsure of what items are, the friendly staff is happy to describe the different dishes. Chadra Mezza’s outgoing bar staff seem to know everyone that walks in. Even if they do not, they will still treat you like they do.
The buffet is really the way to go at Chadra Mezza. Look for unique dishes such as Ablama, a squash stuffed with ground sirloin, or the Muhhamara dip made of red bell peppers and walnuts. The hummus is coarse and garlicky - perfect for piling onto a pita chip. End your meal with one of their house made ice creams in a variety of unusual flavors such as rose water or tamarind.
