Restaurant Review
McKinley’s recently renounced its membership in the Celebrity Bakery chain, but it has maintained a similar charm. The baby pink and blue hues still echo throughout the restaurant and the baked goods are as enticing as ever. Like Celebrity, this lunch spot serves up classic American lunch fare like tuna melts and large club salads. Try the Take Two Combo for a sampling of the daily soup and half a sandwich or salad. The McKinley’s Chicken Salad sandwich, a standard at such establishments, has good flavor but is so mushy it is difficult to tell where the mayonnaise ends and the chicken begins. Hot sandwiches, like the Chipotle Chicken sandwich, are much sturdier and boast a bolder flavor. Portions are filling but you simply cannot pass up McKinley’s bakery case. The enormous selection of cakes, brownies and cookies means difficult decisions must be made, but fear not because you can’t go wrong. Try a classic macaroon for a smaller treat or the Horned Frog cookie for a local favorite that is reminiscent of a homey pecan pie. This is convenient place for a lazy lunch and some old-fashioned girl talk.
