Restaurant Review

The space previously occupied by 29 Degree Tavern has been revived with a breath of fresh air from executive chef, Keith Hicks.  Gone are the separations between bar and dining room and what you are left with is an open and inviting space with folks mingling at the bar and a stage with live music as the focal point.  As promised by the sign outside - there is \"food and music for the soul\" within these walls and it does not disappoint.

Live Jazz from the Rodney Bowens Jazz Trio was the music of choice on this particular Wednesday evening.  Luckily, there was no wait for a table although there was certainly a lively crowd for a mid-week night.  We hear that Fridays and Saturdays can be a worthwhile 1-2 hour wait as reservations are only accepted on a limited basis for parties of 10 or more.

I love that the menu has a variety of options from seafood and pasta to steaks and Old School favorites to please just about anyone - but not so many choices that you get dizzy just trying to make a decision.  The Old School Pot Roast immediately caught my attention.  It arrived atop creamy garlic mashed potatoes and carefully covered with a handful of fried onion strings.  I wish that I could say that I savored every mouthful - but I devoured it in a blur of yumminess.  I do recall a short intermission to swap a bite of au jus soaked roast for a sampling from a very generous portion of seared Ahi Tuna with glass noodles, but then I was back to my plate without coming up for air.  I think that the gentleman with the saxaphone came by our table for a moment, but even that could not break me from my trance. In fact, I blame the soothing sounds coming from the stage for getting me into my trance-like state in the first place.

Believe it or not, we even made room for peach cobbler which left our eyes wide when it arrived at the table.  There sat a mound of warm peaches with a thick breading and vanilla ice cream beginning its inevitable decent into peach syrup goodness. \"There's no way we can eat all that after the meal we just had!\"  But where there's a will, there's a way - and if there is one thing I am not, it's a quitter.

Needless to say, I will be returning to Buttons with much regularity. I will even do what I can to expand my horizons past the pot roast...but I don't make any promises past stealing a bite from anyone who dares to join my table.
