On Resolutions...
It’s the new year so I feel obligated to say something about resolutions.  I’m not much for making resolutions because I end up making one then forgetting it two weeks later.  Besides - if I REALLY wanted to change something I would have done it by now and not waited for that special day where I begin having to cross out the last digits I write on the date section of my checks because I just can’t get it right.

This is, however, a good time to reflect.  And although I hate to do it, I’ll take a page from one of the many workshops I’ve sat through.  I usually take issue with the inane exercises that they force you through at some of these seminars – but there is one that always comes up that actually does not make my head hit the desk.  Write something that you want to Keep Doing, Start Doing and Stop Doing.  So here goes…and what do ya know, they’re all about food J

Keep Doing – Keep exploring all of the Fort Worth restaurants that I have yet to visit.  I am constantly amazed at just how many dining options our city has to offer and how many of them I have yet to try!  It’s almost embarrassing – but it just goes to show how many options we have.  Here’s a couple of my favorite local food blogs to read to see if I've missed anything or to remind me of places I just need to revisit…

Stop Doing – Stop skipping breakfast!  I have a bad habit of running out the door and not eating a thing.  The real problem here is that I have an even worse habit of hitting the snooze button about a dozen times…and that is no exaggeration.  So maybe my “stop doing” should be hitting the snooze button…

Start Doing – Start writing my recipes down! I typically cook during the weekdays and save restaurants for the weekends.   When people ask my boyfriend what his favorite dish is that I cook, he usually says that it’s hard to pick because I never cook anything twice! I tend to just grab what’s available and make something out of it (not so much out of creativity, but out of laziness for making multiple trips to the grocery store).  Occasionally it flops, but when it comes out great he tells me to write it down. I always say I’ll do it later and it never happens.  I would love to have a collection of recipes that I’ve put together and eventually put together my own cookbook.

Hopefully, taking a minute to stop and think about the things that I need to continue with or need to cut out will help to make positive changes.  I actually did make a resolution a few years back to get out of my cooking rut and experiment with at least one completely new recipe every month for the rest of the year.  I actually stuck to that one and now I'm a bona fide Foodie constantly experimenting in the kitchen, going to culinary school, and publishing a food magazine and website!  So maybe resolutions really aren't so bad :)
