OpenTable…don’t forget Fort Worth! |
|
I see my little “New Mail!” message pop-up and am ecstatic to see that it’s about food! New message from OpenTable about Restaurant Week and fancy restaurants where I can get tons of points. I don’t use OpenTable that often – but I’m not opposed to getting points for something that I already do.
First item - KRLD Restaurant Week. Perfect! I do need to make some reservations for that…but wait – this says KRLD Restaurant Week-Dallas. I live in Fort Worth! Not Dallas. Nothing against Dallas…I lived there for 6 years – but I live in Fort Worth! West Fort Worth in fact, which is over an hour from Dallas! I know there is a Restaurant Week in Fort Worth – why don’t they show me that? I’ll let that go. Scroll down…fancy restaurants worth lots of points. Sure – I need a reservation at a fancy restaurant. Who doesn’t? I see Mansion, some place called Mignon, 8 other places – all in Dallas! This is not helping to calm my frustration at this point. Scroll down…”Your primary dining location: Dallas…click here to update profile”. Ah…here’s the problem, my profile is wrong. All can be forgiven. I log in…”Your profile is set to: Dallas/Fort Worth.” AAAAARGGHHHHH! Back to my email – Delete! Delete! Delete! Ok – I know it only took one delete to get rid of it – but I just want to make sure you understand my irritation…which leads me to another problem – it’s really hard to show people when you’re mad at them these days. Do you press delete REALLY hard on your keyboard? Or when you hang up - press “End Call” with the greatest of force?? Maybe someone should put a button on cell phones that recreates the abrupt noise of a rotary phone receiver being slammed to it’s cradle. I digress… Now I don’t want to assume that this is OpenTable’s fault. I’m a reasonable person. (Although I’m afraid you don’t believe me after my little rant above – but I am!) Maybe there simply are not many Fort Worth restaurants that put their information on OpenTable. I’ll give it another shot. I find myself on opentable.com – even though I just cursed it two minutes ago and swore to never cross it’s path again! The first thing I see is the list of cities. I start to wonder if the people in Minneapolis–St. Paul or Los Angeles/Orange County share my same beef. Well, maybe not in Orange County – judging from The Hills, they have more important things to worry about. Not that I watch that! I don’t! But you don’t have to watch it to see their shiny little faces everywhere. But St. Paul – I bet St. Paul could sympathize with me. To my surprise, it is not difficult to go to my DFW page and sort by Fort Worth only. One point for OpenTable. 16 Total Restaurants listed for Fort Worth - wait, make that 13 because 3 of these restaurants are listed as Graham and DFW Corridor…take that point back. We’re left with Bonnell’s, Lanny’s, Ruffino’s The Vault, Reata – all fine choices. But they have them all listed as Fort Worth Downtown! The last time I checked – I could not see the Bonnell’s windmill from the rooftop of Reata. So my conclusion is that OpenTable has not properly reached out to Fort Worth establishments touting the benefits of using its resources. Understandable seeing that they are based in London! Therefore, I feel the need to offer my services to OpenTable to be their Ambassador to Fort Worth. I’ll let you know how that goes…
